This was part of a second route between Joliet and Mazonia, effectively making it a double track route. In 1905 between Plaines and Pequot, a paired track arrangement was adopted with Santa Fe. But in 2008, the connection was broken at Pequot, and Santa Fe successor BNSF assumed complete control of the paired track.
