AMERICA'S STREAMLINERS
ST. LOUIS SAN FRANCISCO/MISSOURI KANSAS TEXAS
(POST WW II)
These two railroads jointly operated the Texas Special, competing with Missouri Pacific's Texas Eagle to some extent. Both competing trains operated through sleepers to and from New York City and Washington DC, connecting at St. Louis with the Pennsylvania Railroad's Penn Texas. In addition, St. Louis San Francisco operated the Meteor. The Texas Special normally required 3 consists, but only two cars were available for certain types of cars, with the third car unknown, possibly a heavyweight. It is known that an observation car was carried only every 2 out of 3 days.
Only streamlined trains and the most important stations are shown.
