The New York Central main line between Buffalo and Chicago was the main railroad through Toledo, using Union Station. Amtrak continues to use this route. Additional NYC lines included the Detroit Division north, the Old Road extending west to Elkhart via southern Michigan, the Norwalk Branch extending east, and the Ohio Central Eastern Branch and Western Branch, both extending south. From 1980 to 1995, some Amtrak service used the Detroit Division. Ohio Central trains used trackage rights via Chesapeake & Ohio from Rockwell Jct. to Walbridge, and Toledo Terminal from Walbridge to Stanley. Also using Union Station was Baltimore & Ohio extending south to Cincinnati, Chesapeake & Ohio extending south to Columbus, Pere Marquette (later C&O) extending north to Detroit, and Wabash extending southwest to Fort Wayne. B&O trains also operated north to Detroit, via PM/C&O. The Nickel Plate Clover Leaf District towards St. Louis used a separate route out of Union Station, but shared the Wabash route between Walbridge Jct. and Wanick Jct., in Maumee.
