As rebuilt, La Salle Street Station is the most "open air" of all the downtown Metra terminals.
The old station was actually located at La Salle St. and Van Buren St., and was included in a few scenes in Alfred Hitchcock's film "North By Northwest". But a new office building was constructed there, with an address of 440 S. La Salle St. The station is now somewhat tricky to find, a sign is hanging from the CTA elevated structure, at the La Salle and Van Buren stop.
At the entrance of the 440 S. La Salle St. building, one half block south of Van Buren St. and on the east side of the new building, an overhang exists. At that location, stairways and escalators lead up to the new station.
A similar overhang exists on the west side of the new building, at what is known as Financial Place. The arched structure is where the station passes over Congress Pkwy.
The "open air" character of the concourse and gates of the rebuilt La Salle Street station.
The rebuilt La Salle Street Station includes a modest indoor area, accessible behind the concourse.
The indoor area includes ticket windows, a small waiting room, and a small grill. Amenities are most lacking at this station, proposals exist to improve the amenities.
