The most recent passenger service was between 1969 and 1971, after Grand Central Station closed and Baltimore & Ohio trains used North Western Station. The only other regular passenger service was between 1856 and 1864, when Chicago Burlington & Quincy trains used this route to access Illinois Central's station. Prior to then, CB&Q trains used the Chicago & North Western station on Wells Street. CB&Q trains originally used C&NW trackage to enter Chicago, until the 1864 opening of its own line between Chicago and Aurora.
