Amtrak's Cardinal and Hoosier State now utilize the trackage between Thornton Jct. and Munster, where a connection is made with CSX former Monon trackage south of Munster. In 2013, Grand Trunk Western successor CN transferred this segment to CSX control, eliminating the need for CSX former Monon freight trains to use trackage rights. At Harvey, new connections had been constructed with the former Illinois Central's Markham Yard, accommodating for the merger between the two railroads. But much of the CN traffic has been shifted to the Matteson Subdivision (former Elgin Joliet & Eastern) west of Griffith.
