LAKE SHORE SYSTEM

In 1926, Harry Arnold began to acquire control of various local city and intercity bus companies in Ohio. The most notable intercity bus acquisitions were the following companies:

Fairlick Stages
Acquired in 1936.

Operated from Mount Vernon to Sandusky, Sandusky to Bucyrus, Newark to Lancaster.

Arcodel System
Formed during 1920's, acquired in 1948.

Operated from Columbus to Newark, Zanesville and Marietta.

Red Star Way
Incorporated in 1922, acquired in 1949.

Operated from Columbus to Zanesville, Wheeling and Pittsburgh.

In 1943, Harry Arnold had also acquired control of Lake Shore Coach Co., which had been formed in 1922 as a bus subsidiary of the Lake Shore Electric Railway interurban. In 1949, control of Lake Shore Coach Co. was swapped to Greyhound in exchange for Valley Greyhound Lines subsidiary. Valley Greyhound Lines was previously Valley Public Service Co., which had been formed in 1928 as bus subsidiary of the Scioto Valley Railway & Power Co. interurban.

In 1958, Lake Shore name applied to all intercity bus companies. Ceased operations in 1974, with some remaining services integrated into existing Greyhound network.
