Original route was Des Moines-Springfield. In 1950 acquired Ozark Trails operating Springfield-Mountain Home south, and to various points west of Springfield. Ozark Trails was a Trailways member until 1950 acquisition, and was renamed in 1946 from A.W. Shepherd Bus Lines. Des Moines Springfield & Southern operated until 1956, with routes then sold. Des Moines-Sioux City route sold to Sedalia-Marshall-Boonville Stage Line, which operated until 1979. Des Moines-Springfield-Mountain Home route sold to South Central Stages, which already had route Springfield-Fort Scott, and was a Trailways member until 1954. Routes west of Springfield sold to Ozark Stages. In 1957, South Central Stages sold to Smitty's Bus Line. And in 1958, Ozark Stages sold to Smitty's Bus Line. In 1959, Smitty's Bus Line sold to Main Line Bus Co., except Springfield-Mountain Home route sold to Springfield-Mountain Home Bus Line. Main Line Bus Co. operated until 1964, and Springfield-Mountain Home Bus Line operated until 1987.
