CARBONDALE-HARRISBURG COACH LINE

Carbondale-Harrisburg Coach Line began operations in 1937, by acquiring a route between its namesake cities from Dixie Greyhound Lines. In 1939, additional routes were acquired from Harrisburg to Eldorado and Shawneetown, and from Carbondale to Anna and Cape Girardeau. And in subsequent years, additional routes were acquired from Dixie Greyhound Lines. Many routes had their origins with the Egyptian Transportation System, which began operations in in 1920. In 1934, Egyptian Transportation System was sold to Dixie Greyhound Lines. Listed are Egyptian Transportation System routes which were not retained by Dixie Greyhound Lines, introduced in the years indicated.

The route from Robinson to Effingham was eventually operated by Central Illinois Coach.
In 1941, routes were introduced from Murphysboro and Carbondale, from Marion, and from West Frankfort and Zeigler and Herrin, to the Ordill Munitions Plant.
In 1943, a route was introduced from Decatur through Effingham to Enield, and east to Carmi. The segment from Effingham to Fairfield had originally been introduced by Egyptian Transportation System. listed above.
In 1944, a route was introduced from Springfield to Carbondale.
In 1955, Carbondale-Harrisburg Coach Line was acquired by Peoria Rockford Bus Co. In 1966, remaining routes discontinued.
