ST. LOUIS STREETCARS AND BUSES - 1942

Streetcar and bus routes operated by St. Louis Public Service Co. in 1942. Streetcar routes are red, and bus routes are green. Route numbers are included. Some bus routes were originally created by the People's Motorbus Co. in competition with the streetcars, but were retained by St. Louis Public Service Co. after acquisition of the People's Motorbus Co., as the streetcar system was inadequate to carry all passengers. These are route numbers 91-98. New bus routes in outlying areas had been created, and a few streetcar routes had been converted to buses. Most of these routes were numbered in the 100's. During the early 1940's, National City Lines assumed control of St. Louis Public Service Co., which after the end of World War II would mean many more replacements of streetcars with buses.
