MILWAUKEE AREA INTERURBAN BUS LINES

SOUTHWEST OF MILWAUKEE

Bus lines supplementing interurban railway lines southwest of Milwaukee, operated by The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Company.

1919 - The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Company introduces its first bus route, connecting with railway at Burlington, operating to Lake Geneva.

1921 - Lakeshore Transportation Co. introduces bus service between Racine and Burlington.

1922 - The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Company forms subsidiary Wisconsin Motor Bus Lines to operate buses. Wisconsin Motor Bus Lines introduces bus service between Racine and Burlington, competing against Lakeshore Transportation Co. Wisconsin Motor Bus Lines also extends route from Lake Geneva to Elkhorn and Delavan, and introduces bus service connecting with railway at East Troy, operating via Delavan to Beloit.

1923 - Wisconsin Motor Bus Lines acquires Lakeshore Transportation Co.

1926 - Bus service discontinued between East Troy and Elkhorn, with new through bus route formed between Racine and Beloit, operating via Burlington, Lake Geneva, Elkhorn, Delavan.

1927 - Bus service resumed between East Troy and Elkhorn, as part of new bus route west to Delavan and Janesville.

1934 - Wisconsin Motor Bus Lines ceases to be a separate subsidiary of The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Light Company.

1934 - Bus routes from Racine and East Troy to Beloit sold to Midland Coach Lines. Service between Delavan and Janesville discontinued.

1952 - Northland Greyhound Lines sells Racine-Burlington segment to Best Motor Coach Co. Service would last only a few years longer.
