TRANSIT FACILITIES IN INDIANAPOLIS

CAR HOUSES/BUS GARAGES

Present and past.

INDY-GO BUS GARAGE

On December 13, 1985, the Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation began using its new facility at 1501 W. Washington St., at Harding St. The new facility is four blocks west of the former Indianapolis Railways facility, which since 1957 had served as the transit system's only bus garage. A modern garage was constructed on property which had originally had been home to the Duesenberg auto plant, but in later years was the factory where Marmon Herrington manufactured trolleybuses.

The garage is on the west side of Harding St., south of Washington St.

The modern garage building is visible to the left. The original machine shop building was restored into the administrative office building, and is to the right.

At the top of the machine shop building, the lettering for "MARMON HERRINGTON" was allowed to remain, although faded over the years.
