Prior to 1892, all streetcar routes were horse cars. All lines were converted to electric operation in 1892, except for the independently owned Centlivre line, which was merged into the main system and electrified in 1894.
Fort Wayne grew considerably after the elimination of streetcars, and the present bus system bears little resemblance to the streetcar system. But except for the South Wayne and the Belt Line routes, at least a portion of every streetcar route is now covered by a bus route.
