DETROIT STREETCARS AND BUSES - 1951

Six years after the end of World War II, and the Department of Street Railways was well on its way to becoming that only in name. An extensive bus service had been established to serve the newer parts of Detroit, particularly on the west side. Streetcar routes are shown in red, bus routes are shown in green, trolleybus routes are shown in blue. The Grand River route actually became a trolleybus route on 7/6/51. While the Mt. Elliott, Oakland and Trumbull streetcar routes were converted from streetcars to motor buses 23 days earlier on 6/29/51.
