NORTH SHORE LINE

State Line to Kenosha

A continuous path extends over the North Shore right of way from the Illinois state line to 89th Street in Kenosha.

North of the state line, many concrete bases for the electrification supports are visible along the right of way.

The path from the south ends at 89th Street in Kenosha. North of there, 30th Avenue extends north through Kenosha, and evidence of the North Shore is more difficult to find. View is looking north, with the four lanes of 30th Avenue visible.

The Kenosha station at 63rd Street has been preserved, and is now an Italian restaurant.

Distance from State Line to Kenosha is 6 miles.

This segment could be done as one walk, or as two separate walks split at Zion, or at Winthrop Harbor at 9th Street. The Metra/Union Pacific North Line can be used to reach the right of way, although at least a mile separates the North Shore Line right of way from the former Chicago & North Western. In Kenosha, Kenosha Transit operates bus routes serving many portions of the right of way north of 93rd Street. Although little evidence exists of the North Shore Line exists between 89th Street and the station at 63rd Street. All Kenosha Transit serve downtown and pass within several blocks of the Metra/UP station. The North Shore Line never passed closer than a mile west of downtown Kenosha.
