AMERICA'S STREAMLINERS
SANTA FE
(DOME ERA)
The Santa Fe assigned its newest and best cars to its premier train, the Super Chief and El Capitan. With many of those trains' original post war cars subsequently assigned to other trains. Many pre war cars on the Chief continued to perform well, into Amtrak ownership in the 1970's. Later in 1956, El Capitan received new high level cars, a concept used by no other railroad. Although the high level concept perhaps inspired the development of Amtrak's Superliner long distance cars.
Only streamlined trains and the most important stations are shown.
