MAPPING THE STATIONS AND RAILROADS

Links to locations of past and present stations and railroads, using Google Maps. Satellite views are also available.

The New York Central main line between New York and Buffalo was the main railroad through Utica, using Union Station. New York Central identified its towers as "Signal Stations" (SS), and these Signal Stations were usually numbered. SS30 controlled the east end of the station, and SS31 controlled the west end of the station. Two NYC St. Lawrence Division lines also served Utica. Diverting north at SS31 was the Ogdensburg Branch. SS34 was in Rome, 12 miles west of Utica, and where the Richland Branch diverted north. Also serving Utica was Delaware Lackawanna & Western, diverting south at SS31, connecting at Binghamton with the main line between New York and Buffalo.
