STATIONS TODAY

The Santa Fe station was used by Amtrak until it burned in 1993, and was replaced with a new station at the same location. In 2008, Amtrak moved to the new Alvarado Transportation Center, at 320 1st St. SW. The new location actually is the location of the original 1880's station.

The Santa Fe main line between Chicago and California was the only railroad passing through Albuquerque. A secondary Santa Fe line extended south from Albuquerque to El Paso, diverging from the main line at Isleta, 12 miles south of Albuquerque.
