Pennsylvania Station
Opened in 1887
Location: 424 N. Central Ave.
Railroads: Pennsylvania Railroad, Baltimore & Ohio, Nickel Plate Road
Building is now used by the Lima Utilities Department.
Actually two stations at the southwest quadrant of a crossing. The Pennsylvania Railroad "Fort Wayne" line ran east and west, and had a station which continued to be used by Amtrak until 1990, when the line was downgraded, and Amtrak trains were rerouted. A separate station building, since demolished, served the Baltimore & Ohio, running north and south, and the Nickel Plate Road which had trackage rights over that line. Passenger service on that line was discontinued in 1971 with the creation of Amtrak.
The Erie Railroad used a separate station at 1st Street between Main St. and Elizabeth St., service discontinued in 1970. And the Detroit Toledo & Ironton used a separate station at 940 Bellefontaine Ave., service discontinued prior to 1942. The station building still stands, now used as a bar.
